Prosecution Team Manual of Guidance - 2004 Edition

The prosecution team manual of guidance is used by members of the prosecution team, police officers and Crown Prosecutors for the preparation, processing and submission of prosecution files.

The 2004/05 update of the manual was the most significant re-write since the manual was first introduced.

Changes were made to reflect progress in legislation, and in recognition that many police forces operate with a disproportionately high number of probationary officers. In particular, Section Two in its entirety, and form MG3, have been created to take account of provisions contained within the Criminal Justice Act 2003.

Simpler to use

The editorial board revised this manual to make it simpler to use, and more easily understood, even by those with limited experience in case file preparation.

In the process, the board removed as much unnecessary bureaucracy as possible, and provided forms with enough detail to make them somewhat easier to complete. Each of the forms should contain all of the information necessary for prosecutors.

Future updates

It is anticipated that the manual will be updated in the latter part of 2009 following the implementation of streamlined process.
