Summary of HMIC baseline assessments.

During 2004/05, the force achieved reductions in the level of recorded crime and increased detection rates in most key crime categories. High visibility patrols have been undertaken in key locations throughout the county. The commitment of the force to this long-running initiative has contributed to a reduction in public violence of 4%, against a national backdrop of increased violent crime.

There have been significant changes within the command team over the last year with a new Deputy Chief Constable (DCC) and Assistant Chief Constable (ACC) being appointed. Alongside this, a new Chair of the police authority has also taken up post.

A challenge for Warwickshire during 2005/06 is to strengthen its crime reduction performance with respect to domestic burglary and vehicle crime. Additionally, the force will be building on its existing culture of community policing, focusing on processes of community engagement and contact through the citizen focus programme and further developing neighbourhood policing teams.
