Summary of HMIC baseline assessments.

Surrey has differing contexts for policing services, with predominantly high-density urban and commercial areas bordered by major road networks to the north, and rural areas to the south and west. The force prides itself on having one of the safest counties in England and Wales and leads on developing national standards in community and mixed-economy policing.

A key focus of the Surrey Police Standard is its commitment to quality of service and increasing customer satisfaction. This work, together with other measures, has resulted in significant improvements in public confidence. Human resource (HR) challenges regarding recruitment and retention of police officers and staff have led to the introduction of a range of innovative measures. The force has also contended with a number of high-profile investigations that it has well managed and brought, in the main, to successful conclusions.
