Summary of HMIC baseline assessments.
Suffolk is principally rural and coastal and the force has three territorial areas: eastern, western and southern. The county is renowned for its scenic beauty and heritage coastline, which attract many tourists. The strategic location of Felixstowe makes the road network of the A12 and A14 extremely busy with commercial traffic.
In 2004/05 the force achieved many of its performance targets; however, there has been a decrease in detections in key crime categories. Suffolk has achieved ‘good’ HMIC component assessments in most areas and was ‘fair’ in all others.
The force and authority are developing their successful Suffolk First strategy into Suffolk First for You. The existing Suffolk First twin aims of ‘being safe’ and ‘feeling safe’ have been retained and expanded to include customer care and quality of service. Additionally, the force has embarked on a Home Office-backed collaborative venture called the 3 Counties Project with its neighbours, Norfolk and Cambridgeshire.
