Summary of HMIC baseline assessments.
The force has undertaken significant restructuring to improve performance, against the backdrop of serious drug and gun crime issues. Noteworthy results have been achieved in relation to the seizure of drugs and guns, arrest rates and the management of prolific and priority offenders.
The force, police authority, HMIC and Police Standards Unit (PSU) have developed a collaborative approach to improving performance in priority areas. Recorded crime levels during 2004/05 reduced at a greater rate than the average of its peers in all key volume crime categories. However, Nottinghamshire’s relative position is still low and this remains a key challenge.
In March 2005, following the Chief Constable’s concerns, HMIC reviewed the force’s policing response to murder and other serious crime. Progress has been made in implementing the review recommendations. The challenge for the force is to improve simultaneously in seven critical areas by January 2006: delivery, performance, proactivity, people, resources, partnerships and risk management.
