Summary of HMIC baseline assessments.
Following recognition from HMIC in 2003/04 that Lancashire Constabulary was one of the best-performing forces in the country, the opportunity was taken to emphasise the commitment to continuous improvement and innovation through the reinforcement of the force’s ambition, which is to be the best police service in the country. The principle of continuous improvement is firmly embedded, with self-assessment fully integrated within the annual planning process.
Lancashire’s policing style places an emphasis on partnership and problem solving, coupled with tight performance management. It has embraced the National Intelligence Model and developed an IT framework to support the real-time briefing of front-line officers. This has received endorsement as national good practice.
The force is also a pilot force for the National Reassurance Project, leading Lancashire to devise the Police and Communities Together initiative, which represents a consistent approach to identifying and dealing with neighbourhood priorities.
