Summary of HMIC baseline assessments.
In 2004/05, Hampshire made significant improvements in crime reduction and received national and international recognition for this work. Investigative performance was impressive, with some of the best detection rates nationally for domestic burglary and robbery. The resources dedicated to major crime investigation were significant and yielded good results. The force is also seen as a leader in the management of calls from the public and providing a quality service. Additionally, following a period of stability in the command team, the past year saw the appointment of a new assistant chief constable.
Two of the main organisational challenges for Hampshire in 2005/06 will be the introduction of a new local command structure which will reduce its Basic Command Units (BCUs) from ten to six, and the implementation of a record management system, which presents a fundamental change in IT systems.
