Summary of HMIC baseline assessments.
During 2004/05, an allegation of rape concerning a young girl in Basildon attracted substantial national media interest and required the force to allocate significant resources to investigate. Additionally, given the high-profile threat of terrorist activity, further resources were also deployed at Stansted Airport. Despite these challenges, the force has managed to exceed annual efficiency saving targets.
The authority and force are committed to improving call management and have embarked on a challenging contact management programme. This is due to be completed in 2007. Additionally, Essex is also undertaking a review of its own structure, to ensure the effective and efficient delivery of policing in the future at both a force and local level.
Over the next ten years, significant changes are forecast for Essex, including the regeneration of the Thames and Haven gateways and the expansion of Stansted Airport.
