Summary of HMIC baseline assessments.
The City of London is the world’s leading international centre for finance and related business services, and includes a host of high profile and sensitive locations. The City of London is unique in a number of respects, making comparison with other force areas difficult.
The 2002/03 force review of shape and functions enabled the force in 2004/05 to deliver good levels of performance in key areas such as economic crime, public disorder and community policing. Additionally, the force continued to achieve low crime rates and high detection rates.
The City of London requires a range of policing styles that include interventionist policies to address terrorism, and ward policing developed to address community needs. While overall levels of volume and serious crime remain low, the proliferation of pubs and clubs, and the emergence of the City as a 24-hour entertainment centre, are contributing to a changing demand and crime profile.
