Options exercise
The options exercise to transfer service to the 2006 New Police Pension Scheme (NPPS) under special terms is now closed.
Until 31 January 2007, police officers had the opportunity to transfer their service to the NPPS under special terms. This is now closed, although some officers have been given an extension because of their individual circumstances.
If you missed out on the options exercise, or if you have recently re-joined the service, you may still be entitled to transfer under the special terms.
If you are unsure of your position, please contact your pensions administrator.
Have you recently re-joined the police service?
If you re-joined the police service after 31 January 2007, you may be entitled to transfer any PPS service (provided it is less than 30 years) to the new pension scheme under the options exercise terms. Alternatively, you can keep your deferred PPS benefits where they are and build up a second pension in NPPS. You will have three months to decide this.
Contacting your pensions administrator
If you are not sure how to contact the pensions administrator for your force, get in touch with your personnel or human resources department, who will be able to point you in the right direction.Helpful documents
Two booklets, Understanding your choice and Making your choice, were distributed to every officer as part of the options exercise. They provide comparative information about the two schemes and complement the two members' guides. You can find the members' guides in Downloads.
Report on the outcome
A full report on the outcome of the options exercise was published in June 2007. You can also refer to the detailed information on the outcome of the options exercise, provided by police authorities for all forces in the UK, in a summary of the responses to the survey on the options exercise.
