The following workshop presentations were given at the Working for the Public Briefing Day on 22 June 2009 in Nottingham.

They are based on the three key themes the 2010 workforce inspection will test:  leading, organising and developing.

Workshop A:  Leading - Kent Police

The first part of the leading workshop is led by Kent Police.  Looks at the role leaders have in delivering better customer service.  In particular, it looks at the role leaders, at all levels across the force, have played in the implementation of Operation Doorstep and the impact this initiative has had on the public across Kent.

Workshop A:  Leading - Maqsood Ahmad

The second part of the leading workshop is led by Maqsood Ahmad, Head of Police Equality and Diversity Policy, Home Office.  It looks at the role leaders have to play in achieving the tripartite's vision for equality and in implementing the three year strategy for equality, diversity and human rights, along with the Equality Standard and local target setting.  The workshop also covers what good practice will look like in relation to the equality and diversity strand of the inspection in order to assist forces with their preparation in the run-up to 2010.

Workshop Leads:  Inspector James Evans, Superintendent Jon Sutton (Kent Police), Maqsood Ahmad (Home Office)

Workshop B:  Organising - Norfolk Constabulary

The organising workshop is led by Norfolk Constabulary, who have made a series of changes to the way in which its force is structured across the county and this workshop explains the way the force has undertaken this work.  In particular, the workshop looks at how changes to the way the force is structured had led to increased productivity and improved customer service.

Workshop Lead:  ACC Charlie Hall (Norfolk Constabulary)

Workshop C:  Developing - NPIA

The developing workshop is led by NPIA, faciliatated by Angela O'Connor.  The workshop covers the NPIA's capability in terms of the support it can offer to forces and authorities before and after the inspection.  The first part of the workshop covers the work of the NPIA capability support team before going on to look at leadership development, with a focus on the role of the sergeant.  This will help forces in the development of their workforce, a key part of the inspection.  The workshop concludes with a session on equality standards.

Workshop Leads: Angela O'Connor (Chief People Officer), Dave Hudson, Jenny Sims, Everett Henry, Derek Mann (all from NPIA - National Policing Improvement Agency).
