About Us
Police Protective Capabilities Unit
The Police Protective Capabilities Unit was established in February 2007 to progress the Home Office's work on 'protective services' - policing issues that go beyond the scope of an individual force.
Protective services include counter terrorism, serious and organised crime, major crime (requiring the appointment of a senior investigating officer), critical incident management, public order, civil contingencies and emergency planning, strategic policing and the protection of vulnerable people.
The Home Office's objective is to deliver significantly improved capabilities in areas of high protective service need by 2009 and for all forces to reach the required standards by 2011.
See Protective Services for more information.
