Forensic Science Service Sponsorship and Policy Unit

This unit is responsible for the Forensic Science Service (FSS) Ltd, the Home Office's only government owned company (GovCo).

FSS Ltd is a Companies Act 2006 (new window) company whose only shareholder is the Home Office.  The FSS vested in December 2005, having been for several years an Executive Agency Trading Fund of the Home Office.  The performance of the organisation and its transformation since its creation as a GovCo is monitored by the Shareholder Executive who report to the FSS Sponsorship and Policy unit.

The FSS Sponsorship and Policy units objectives are

• To manage the Home Office’s shareholding in FSS Ltd
• To provide a central point of contact with the Shareholder Executive
• To co-ordinate a strategic programme of work to develop future forensic science policy, its application by the police service and the wider criminal justice system along side the continued transformation of the FSS. This work is being undertaken in partnership with the Home Office Chief Scientific officer, the National Policing Improvement Agency, the Association of Chief Police Officers, and the Shareholder Executive.
