Police and Partnership Standards Unit

The Police and Partnership Standards Unit (PPSU) is a new unit in the Home Office which was created after the Police Standards Unit and the Partnership Performance Support Unit merged. This new unit has been created because of the increasing emphasis placed on partnership working to reduce crime and anti social behaviour and the need to work with the extended police family in order to achieve this.

Unit responsibilities

The PPSU brings together experienced individuals seconded from the police service, local government and civil servants to form a comprehensive knowledge base covering the whole business area.

The new team has adopted a problem solving approach with partnerships and the police to deliver effective and sustainable improvements. PPSU has also delivered a range of targeted and intensive support to assist in achieving performance standards set for partnerships. The unit will seek to influence and review delivery of the community safety agenda at government office (regional) and Wales, (Welsh Assembly Government) level whilst retaining the capability to engage with under performing police forces where necessary.

The Unit is divided into three sections:-

• The Partnership Support Section is responsible for the government office relationships and the partnership aspects of our work at local and regional level.
• The Operational Support section will continue with the national projects such as AMEC, Tackling Violent Crime and dissemination of good practice and has been expanded to include the crime reduction web team.
• The Programme Support section will manage the business side of the unit, This will include centralised administrative support for the unit and the management of the tasking and financial aspects of the business  including, for example, supporting, planning and co-ordinating the partnership support programme and regional and national delivery meetings.

The focus of the new unit will be to challenge and support partnerships and the police and promote effective and sustainable practices that help build safer communities.
